Seventeen Dry-Hopped Black Lager - Avery Brewing Company

Next we moved onto something completely different. (Yes, I am still posting about one night in February, so what?) I really like black lagers and also really enjoy beers from Avery Brewing Company. So I was quite excited for the anniversary special lager.
The anniversary lager, Seventeen, was 8.52% alcohol and very hoppy. It tasted a bit like tar to me; others stated that it tasted distinctly of cigarette ash. Very few of the trusty beer tasters were happy with this brew. A lot of people took one sip and were then ready to move on to the next one.
I kind of liked it. I’m not sure if I was just excited to be drinking something that wasn’t a Belgian ale, or if I really liked the beer. Only one way to find out! I’ll just have to buy this again.
